With the blessing of His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros, the support of Hellenic College Holy Cross President George Cantonis, and the proposal of Rev. Dr. John Chryssavgis, Archdeacon of the Ecumenical Patriarchate and Executive Director of the Huffington Ecumenical Institute HCHC, the next plenary meeting of the International Commission for Anglican-Orthodox Theological Dialogue will be hosted by the Huffington Ecumenical Institute HCHC at the Maliotis Cultural Center from October 4–11, 2024.
Topics for discussion will be “The Mission of the Church in the World Today” and “Christian Formation”. The dialogue between the Anglican Communion and the Orthodox Church is in fact the oldest ongoing Pan-Orthodox bilateral theological conversation established and facilitated by the Ecumenical Patriarchate. The current Dialogue is co-chaired by His Eminence Metropolitan Athenagoras of Belgium (on behalf of the Ecumenical Patriarchate) and His Grace Bishop Michael Lewis in Jerusalem (on behalf of the Anglican Communion).
Orthodox participants comprise representatives of Autocephalous Churches from all over the world including from but not limited to Alexandria and Antioch, Jerusalem and Georgia, as well as Greece and Cyprus. Anglican participants range from Australia and Canada, England and the Middle East, as well as Brazil and Ceylon.
The meeting itself -although private in its nature- will also provide an opportunity for events open to the public with a view to generating a mutual encounter between members of the Dialogue with faculty and students of the Hellenic College and Holy Cross School of Theology as well as the broader communities of New England.
