On October 20, 2023, Rev. Dr. John Chryssavgis, Archdeacon of the Ecumenical Patriarchate and Executive Director of the Huffington Ecumenical Institute at Hellenic College Holy Cross will participate in the “Study Programme: Orthodox Church and Contemporary Challenges” organized by the School of Theology and Religious Studies of the University of Tartu, along with Volos Academy for Theological Studies in Greece, and the Orthodox Church of Estonia. Fr. John will lecture about Theology and Ecology: Discerning Basic Principles and Connections.
The study programme aims to explore the burning issues in society (ecological crisis, war, mental health problems, responsibilities of the Church), in the context of both the history of the Orthodox Church and contemporary theological and social debates. The Orthodox Church has been a centre of Christian thought for centuries.
About the HEI
The Huffington Ecumenical Institute at Hellenic College Holy Cross seeks to facilitate and advance dialogue with other churches and faiths, particularly around theological and ethical, as well as pastoral and practical dimensions of contemporary issues and social challenges of our time. It strives to explore and express the fundamental ethos of the Orthodox Church in open encounters and honest engagement with other confessions and communities.
