On September 14-15, the Huffington Ecumenical Institute (HEI) at Hellenic College Holy Cross (HCHC) hosted a colloquium honoring the 35-year tenure of His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew.
Co-sponsored by the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America, supported by the Archons of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, and hosted at the Maliotis Cultural Center, the event featured expert explorations of the ecclesial, social, and pastoral dimensions of His All-Holiness’s ministry.
Fr. John Chryssavgis, Executive Director of HEI, offered the colloquium’s opening remarks. He expressed his personal admiration for the Ecumenical Patriarch, reflecting on his experience as Archdeacon of the Ecumenical Throne and theological advisor to the Ecumenical Patriarch on environmental issues.
Offering an Archiepiscopal blessing over the colloquium, His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros of America shared that the “ground and inspiration” for his ministry is found in his bond of “filial devotion” with His All-Holiness, which stretches back more than 25 years.
Panel speakers offered perspectives on His All-Holiness’s contributions to both inter-Orthodox and ecumenical relations (His Eminence Archbishop Maxim of the Western Diocese of the Serbian Orthodox Church, Fr. Nicholas Anton, Fr. Nicolas Kazarian, and Fr. Michael Azar); social issues and social ethos (Dr. Chris Durante, Dr. Vasileia Digidiki Lucero, Dr. Elizabeth Prodromou, and Dr. James Skedros); and pastoral issues (Afroditi Falieros, Fr. Bartholomew Mercado, Dr. Tom Papademetriou, and James Speros).
